Ryan Tannehill Free Agent Predictions: Where Will Former Titans QB Sign?

This story updated Aug. 16, 2024

One of the NFLā€™s most experienced quarterbacks is still looking for a team to call his own. Ryan Tannehill, who turned 36 on July 27, remains unemployed after going 81-70 with the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans between 2012 and 2023.

Tannehill started a career-low eight games for the Titans last year, going 3-5 while throwing four touchdowns to seven interceptions during his final season in the Music City, a downer for the teamā€™s backers at Tennessee sportsbooks. But Tannehill has a career approximate value (per Pro-Football-Reference.com) of 114 in 155 NFL games.

With NFL training camps underway, itā€™s worth wondering whether an NFL team will take a chance on the wily QB. BetTennessee.com breaks down hypothetical odds on potential landing spots for the former eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.

New Possible Landing Spot For Tannehill

There is a new leader on our odds board. If Tannehill was waiting to see if a team had a sudden opening, that strategy might pay dividends soon.

The Minnesota Vikings, who hadnā€™t even been listed among the teams on our list most likely to pursue Tannehill, are now the favorites at +400 odds, or a 20% implied probability.

Thatā€™s because the Vikings lost JJ McCarthy for the season after the first-round draft pick had surgery on a torn right meniscus. That leaves Minnesota with veteran Sam Darnold and a handful of castoffs bidding to be the starting quarterback. The Vikings might make sense as a possible destination for Tannehill, and what quarterback wouldnā€™t want to throw to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson for 160 or so targets per season?

Other Teams That Might Sign QB

As far as outside contenders are concerned, we rate the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins as the next suitors for Tannehillā€™s services, at +600 apiece, after the Vikings. That's followed by the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams at +1200 apiece, with other teams farther down. Our odds board also has an option for the field (any other team aside from the ones mentioned) or that he does not join any team and retires. That category has the best odds, at +350.

As for the Titans, coming off of a last-place finish in the AFC South in 2023-24, they have +400 odds to make the playoffs at Caesars Tennessee Sportsbook.

One way or another, a decision looms for one of the most consistent QBs in recent NFL seasons. Tannehillā€™s camp needs to decide in the coming days and weeks whether heā€™s in it for another season or ready to call it a career and exit stage left after shining in the league for more than a decade.
